Wake Up - Arcade Fire - Cover by Brent Smith

Recorded in the garage June 15, 2009. Sometimes you just have to finish something and get it out there. I've heard there is some Beatles song where one of the verses is actually John Lennon singing into his home 4-Track or something. George Martin liked that one the best and so if you listen closely you can hear the tape hiss and the cheap home microphone. I recorded this song three times. I liked this one the best even though I looked at the words and miffed the guitar part several times. This is youtube it's not perfection. I recorded this with a studio projects B1 and an SM57 into a MOTU Ultralite Mk3 (new to me). I tracked into a laptop running Reaper. The guitar is tuned down one whole stepped and then capo'ed at the second fret with the low E (D in this case) string left un-capo'ed for some friendly on the fingers fake drop-d tuning action. This is my interpretation of one of the best songs on Funeral. Many folks who love the band have seen the "Where the Wild Things Are" trailer and found it very moving - me included. It feels like almost sacrilege to mellow the song out and do it without the "cha-chung cha-chung cha chun-ga" rhythm. But I haven't found any other way for 'me' to do the song.
